Docker Basics
Containers for Real Projects! A free, hands-on introduction to Docker and Docker Compose: what containers actually are, the core commands you'll use every day, and how to run real multi-container apps.
About this course
Why this course
Containers are how modern software gets built, shipped and run. This course takes you from "what even is a container?" to comfortably running a multi-service application with Docker Compose, using the same commands you would use on a real project.
Every lesson leans on concrete, copy-pasteable examples instead of abstract theory, and every module ends with a quiz so you can check what stuck. There's a short final exam at the end that pulls together everything from the course.
This course is completely free, so you can jump between lessons in any order that suits you, and revisit anything as many times as you like.
You'll learn to
- Explain what a container is and why it's different from a virtual machine
- Pull, run, inspect, stop and remove containers with the Docker CLI
- Build your own images with a Dockerfile
- Connect containers over a network and persist their data with volumes
- Describe a multi-container application with Docker Compose and run it with one command
